Framework for
digital currencies

An open source banking
infrastructure for a
future of digital money

Background

ColoredCoins started in 2013 as method to push metadata to the Bitcoin blockchain, and evolved over the years to a vibrant ecosystem for digital currencies.

As the open source community continues to develop, a consortium of stake-holders has formed with the realization that the blockchain movement will transform the way we do business in the future and that this revolution, much like the internet, will happen after standards will form around every layer of the stack.

The ColoredCoins project taps into the biggest and the most successful crypto-currency ecosystem in the world, Bitcoin, and creates a blockchain agnostic framework for digital-currencies that will apply those best practices to traditional finance.

The Blockchain Stack

Ecosystem of Interoperable Tools

  • Issuance
    dasboard

We created an easy to use open source issuance dashboard that allows issuers to manage the currency distribution in the system

  • Wallet

A fundamental part of a functioning economy is the mobile wallet, we provide a ColoredCoins aware Copay wallet

  • Block Explorer

An open source block explorer allows public access to the blockchain and provide infomation to about currency distribution, transactions and holders of the currencies.

Tap into an ecosystem of battle tested tools and best practices for cryptocurrencies all open-source. Classify your modeled elements, export data for operations and maintenance, or use it for sustainable design.

Digital Currency Layer

  • API's

All our tools are wrapped around a powerful and easy to use API/SDK that is available together with our ColoredCoins node

  • Identity

A key part of an open source banking infrastructure is a friendly way allowing consumers to identify themselves and provide tools for client side private key management - Our stack is agnostic to digital identity protocols and looking forward to work with partners on promoting a future of digital KYC

  • Payment
    channels

A digital currency platform has to provide an architecture that can scale and outperform existing players. We released a demo implementation of a Lightning network payment hub that potentially allows us to achieve industry leading scalability

To fulfil the the promise of a full functioning digital currency based on blockchain technology, this layer will connect business needs with end-users, to provide the business logic, connect to identity solutions, privacy and architecture for a scalable payments infrastructure.

Blockchain Agnostic

  • Bitcoin

The Bitcoin blockchain is the biggest and the most battle tested blockchain in the world. It has also the most mature eco-system for digital currencies, this is the reason all of our tools and protocols are Bitcoin blockchain based. By paying miner fees we allow users to "rent" security services for their assets from the Bitcoin blockchain.

  • Multichain

While our infrastructure is Bitcoin based most of our code can easily run on a "private" blockchain by deploying it on private bitcoin based ledgers like Multichain

    More info about Multichain>

  • Hyperledger

Hyperledger is an open source community that is comprised out of 100+ global enterprises and managed under the Linux foundation to build the standard for business transactions over the internet.
ColoredCoins has joined the Hyperledger project as an associate open source community to promote interoperability between our eco-systems.

ColoredCoins has focused on the Bitcoin Blockchain but it’s concepts are blockchain agnostic. Our stack is already interoperable with UTXO based blockchains and will continue to improve interoperability in the future
